Accessibility
Last updated November 7, 2026
Every student should be able to learn here. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA, and we build accessibility in from the start.
What you can adjust
Open Reading options at the top of any page.
- Fonts: our default font, Atkinson Hyperlegible, was designed for legibility. You can also switch to OpenDyslexic or your system font. Some readers find one easier than another, so try each.
- Text size up to 130%, and extra letter, word and line spacing.
- Light, dark or automatic themes.
- Reading ruler that highlights the line you are reading.
- Animations off (we also respect your device’s reduced-motion setting).
- Listen to lessons read aloud using your device’s built-in voices.
How we build
- Everything works with a keyboard, and focus is always visible.
- Colors are checked automatically on every build so text meets at least a 4.5:1 contrast ratio in light and dark themes.
- Every diagram has a written description, and information is never shown by color alone.
- Pages use proper headings, landmarks and a “skip to content” link for screen readers.
- Lessons are plain HTML and work without JavaScript. Games add interactivity on top.
- Layouts are built for phones first and work when zoomed to 200%.
Known limitations
- Math is shown with simple formatting (for example superscripts for exponents), not full math markup, so some screen readers may read expressions less smoothly than ideal. We plan to add MathML.
- We test with automated tools and by hand, but we have not yet had an independent accessibility audit. We will publish the results when we do.
